Legacy systems in European food & beverage environments:

A cybersecurity review

Get your copy

It’s no secret that your industry has transformed dramatically. Digitisation, automation, and increased regulatory pressure are reshaping how food and beverage producers operate. Yet one thing remains constant: production cannot stop. That’s why we need to talk about cybersecurity, not as a blocker but as a business enabler.

Today, many food production environments still rely on legacy systems—Windows XP, Windows 7, and even unsupported SCADA and HMI platforms. These systems are great at keeping things running, but when it comes to modern threats, they’re exposed.

Our recent European study confirmed that this isn’t unique to food and beverage producers. Across manufacturing and production environments, half the organisations we surveyed confirm that 50% of their OT environment still relies on legacy systems, and for one-in-five, this share exceeds 75%. For the food and beverage sector, that risk is compounded. Cyber incidents here don’t just cost money; they put public trust and safety on the line.

We’re sharing this report to help you benchmark your own OT security strategy, learn from peers across Europe, and gain practical insight into what’s working and what’s holding others back.
