OT Security for Machine Builders

The EU Machinery Regulation & Cyber Resilience Act

Changing regulations in the EU aim to reduce the risk of a cybersecurity event affecting the safety of machines.

The EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230

The EU Machinery Regulation will become legally binding on January 20, 2027. It applies to machinery and related products for sale in the EU. The regulation updates machinery safety standards in the EU, addressing cybersecurity and AI concerns.

The Cyber Resilience Act

The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) aims to enhance the cybersecurity of products throughout their lifecycle by imposing obligations on manufacturers, importers, and distributors. It primarily applies to hardware, software and remote data processing solutions with digital elements for sale within the EU.

Cybersecurity compliance for machinery: what’s required and why

The EU Machinery Regulation and Cyber Resilience Act place cybersecurity at the core of machine safety. This ebook breaks down the key compliance requirements and explains what machine builders must do to meet them — from malware prevention to secure remote access and USB control.

Legacy Windows in OT: A Growing Compliance and Cybersecurity Challenge

As the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the new Machinery Regulation raise cybersecurity expectations across Europe's industrial sector, many organisations face a difficult reality: critical operations still rely on legacy Windows systems that cannot easily be upgraded or replaced.

Our latest European research reveals that these systems continue to present significant security and operational risks, making legacy protection an increasingly important part of broader cybersecurity and compliance strategies.

51%
of organisations experienced cyber incidents involving legacy systems in the past year
56%
cite malware as their top concern
60%
are now planning to invest in dedicated protection
